While Lake Natron is not particularly hospitable, the freshwater wetlands around its edges are far more welcoming to a variety of life. The waters alkalinity comes from the sodium carbonate and other minerals that flow into the lake from the surrounding hills. That being said, what life does manage to carve out an existence there makes it a key environment. What makes Lake Natron so dangerous The alkaline water in Lake Natron has a pH as high as 10.5 and is so caustic it can burn the skin and eyes of animals that arent adapted to it. It is an incredibly important wetland region that isn’t exactly teeming with wildlife due to its high temperatures and dangerous waters. A tsunami could develop from a liminic eruption because rising CO2 displaces the water. Located in the Arusha Region of the African country of Tanzania, this body of water is part of the larger Lake Natron Basin. Via runoff from rainwater and nearby hot springs, these dark lava flows release natron a mix of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate once used in Egyptian mummification that makes its way into Lake Natron below, resulting in a rising pH and some pretty fascinating biodiversity. It is very caustic and burns animals that get too close to it binds them and then fills their nasal cavities with poison, that turns them into a black, hardened rock. The lake is deadly because it causes asphyxiation (a deprivation of oxygen causing nearby people to suffocate.) When dissolved CO2 erupts from deep lake waters, creating a gas cloud that can suffocate wildlife, cattle, and humans. It has an area of 1062 km2 and was officially gazetted in 2005, from a game reserve which had existed from 1969. Saadani National Park is Tanzania’s 13th National Park. First, the lake’s temperature can reach as high as 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Well, there’s more than one reason why this isn’t your ideal swimming hole.

A shame, really, because the links are what makes the "external brain" vision really come alive for me. It's probably the best cross-platform personal wiki that exists right now, though they have really not developed this aspect of the app as much as I would like, and probably won't with the turn to Business. I figure, if you are going to be putting your stuff unencrypted into the cloud anyhow, then you ought to use Evernote, because it has note links, images, colors, and all of the other fun stuff that you and JM mentioned. This could be a major problem for people working with mobile. For example, a lot of the cool plain text features that I mention at the link there are possible with iOS (if you sync through Dropbox to Notesy), but one of the most important ones (internal note links) isn't. Sometimes, you can't make it work for your situation, though. I've been pretty pleased with plain text and its flexibility - you can even have images and attachments show up in it if you want. You'll want to use the best format for your particular use case. This issue may compel me to be an EN indentured servant for the unforeseen future!!!? but the enhanced visual acuity is quite obvious. no doubt plain text has more going for it! LOL! reading BLACK plain text.įrom a PORTABILITY perspective. and quickly find what I'm looking for and understand the conceptual ideas laid out in 1/10 the time vs. so that upon a later review my eye can speed scan a note. which offers diminished VISUAL ACUITY.ĬOLOR CODING. I went paperless years ago as well, so I wouldn't know about printing and page numbers, though.Īnd, because plain text is the lingua franca among computers, it is easy to find an app (even notepad, if you'd like) to handle your notes. If you're going back to basics, I wouldn't do Word, I'd do plain text. Moving from one app to another is a relatively painless task if you write in Markdown, and you'll be able to print however you'd like, I suppose, because you can control everything. One decision I made years ago was to work in plain text. STAR-CCM+ offers a very clean, modern interface a result of the complete overhaul of the original STAR-CD software that took place in 2005. STAR-CCM+ is now a Computational Aided Engineering (CAE) solution for solving multidisciplinary problems in both fluid and solid continuum mechanics within a single integrated user interface. STAR-CCM+ is the leading provider of Multiphysics to the automotive industry which contributed 52% of CD-Adapco’s revenue at the time. Their customer base at the time was around 3,200 at an average revenue of $65,000 per customer. At the time of its acquisition by Siemens AG in 2016, CD-Adapco’s annual revenue was around $200M and was growing at a CAGR of 12%. In time, these contributors and others founded the company known as CD-Adapco with the aim to bring CFD to the masses. STAR-CCM+, and before that STAR-CD, was originally developed by researchers in Imperial College’s CFD research group in the late 1980s.
